Jane App alternative for counselling practices
Prices and features as of August 2026. Check both vendors for current details.
Jane is one of the best-known practice management platforms in Canada, and for many clinics it is the right choice. This page is for solo counsellors and small practices deciding whether they need everything Jane offers — or a smaller, cheaper workspace with a public profile and client-retention alerts built in.
A fair summary of Jane
Jane is a mature, full-featured platform used by clinics across many disciplines. Its scheduling, charting, telehealth, and integrated payments are polished, its insurance workflows are far ahead of ours, and its support has a strong reputation. If you run a multi-practitioner clinic or bill insurers directly, Jane is likely the better tool — genuinely.
Ravanika is narrower on purpose: a workspace for solo counsellors and small practices, with a public provider profile included and the Client Attention Center, a continuity layer that watches for clients who quietly stop coming back. It costs less because it does less — the comparison below shows exactly where.

What switching actually looks like
- 1
Request access
Ravanika is invite-based. You tell us about your practice and the plan you want, and we review it — there is no public self sign-up.
- 2
We review and set up your workspace
Access is invite-based, so a person reviews your request and prepares the workspace before you sign in — fees, session types, languages, availability, and your public profile.
- 3
Bring your client list and upcoming sessions across
Active clients and scheduled sessions are entered by hand during setup, and we help with that. For a solo caseload it is an afternoon, not a migration project.
- 4
Export and retain your clinical records from Jane
Export your charts from Jane and retain them per your college or association’s requirements. Your record-keeping obligations do not change because your software did.
What does not come across
- There is no automated importer. Nothing moves across on its own; it is entered by hand during setup.
- Chart notes stay in your Jane export. Ravanika does not ingest them, so keep that export as your archive of record.
- Insurance billing history and any TELUS eClaims workflows stay with Jane. Ravanika has no direct billing to move them into.
Who Ravanika is not for
You bill insurance directly through TELUS eClaims or similar — Ravanika has no direct billing and no plans to pretend otherwise. Stay with Jane or a tool built for it.
You run a large multi-practitioner clinic — Ravanika is built for solo counsellors and small practices, not clinic-scale scheduling and administration.
Common questions
How much cheaper is Ravanika than Jane?
As of August 2026, Jane starts at CA$54/month (Balance) with no free tier; Ravanika has a free plan for up to 5 active clients and a CA$39/month Professional plan covering up to 50. Over a year, Professional costs CA$468 versus CA$648 on Jane Balance — but the honest caveat is that Jane does more, so compare against what you actually use.
Can Ravanika bill insurance companies directly?
No. Ravanika issues professional receipts your clients submit for reimbursement, and that is the extent of it. If direct billing is essential to your practice, Ravanika is the wrong choice — this is exactly what Jane’s insurance add-on is for.
Can I switch from Jane to Ravanika?
Yes — Ravanika is invite-based, and during setup we help you bring your client list and upcoming sessions across. There is no automated importer. Clinical records should be exported from Jane and retained per your college or association’s requirements.
What does Ravanika have that Jane does not?
Two things, honestly stated: a public provider profile included in every plan (a shareable page in the Ravanika directory, no separate website needed), and the Client Attention Center — retention alerts that flag first-session clients who never rebooked, cancellations never rescheduled, and unpaid sessions. Jane covers far more ground overall; these two are where Ravanika is ahead.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Ravanika’s free plan supports up to 5 active clients with the core workspace, email appointment reminders, validated assessments at no extra cost, and a public provider profile listed in the directory — the same public page paid plans get. It is enough to run a very small caseload or evaluate the tool properly before paying.
Does Ravanika have telehealth video?
No. There is no video calling built into Ravanika. Counsellors use whichever video tool they already trust and record the session in Ravanika alongside their in-person and phone sessions. If built-in video matters to you, Jane includes it and Ravanika does not.
Is my client data safe if I leave Ravanika?
You can export your practice data at any time — clients, sessions, payments, and receipts — and there is no lock-in period or exit fee. Ravanika is PIPEDA-aligned, client-facing messages are only ever sent when you send them, and leaving does not require asking us for permission or for your data back.
